During Your Stay
During Your Stay
During your stay you may choose to simply relax in Scalebeck’s 5-acre grounds… or perhaps use us as a base to enjoy exploring the nearby Lakes, Dales and Pennines. Sit and watch the red squirrels, pheasants, and garden birds… or go hiking, cycling, fishing, or horse riding. Visit some castles, gardens, or food producers. It’s up to you how active or inactive you want to be!
However you decide to spend your time, we’ve put together some suggestions to help you plan your trip.
Things To See & Do
Even though we are in the least populated English council there are a surprising number of places to visit and things to see within easy reach of Scalebeck. We are also well positioned to explore the nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North Pennines.
Here are some suggestions of things to see and do during your stay – we hope they are useful in planning your trip!
Activities
If you prefer to be more active, there are lots of options available to you…. walking, cycling, horse riding, or fishing.
It’s up to you how active or inactive you want to be!
Food & Drink
Since you are on holiday you might not fancy cooking every day, or maybe you look forward to shopping for local produce, or buying straight from the maker. We have pulled together some lists of farm shops, markets, pubs and restaurants, local stores and supermarkets, and takeaways. You will be spoilt for choice!

Charming cottage with fantastic hosts! It is warm and cosy in the cottage and it is our home away from home. Owners are very accommodating and quick to respond. The place is very clean.

Home away from home!! My little family and I (wife, toddler and small dog) were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The pictures don’t do enough justice to the ambience to the place. It’s nice warm, cosy and clean. Especially after a day of exploring the nearby river and forces. Kay is very responsive and very helpful before and during our stay. She made us feel welcomed and gave us good recommendations for walks and restaurants to try out. Anything that you will need to cook is available. Please note though that there is no salt/ pepper/ sugar/ tea/coffee due to the Covid-19 but has all the crockery if you bring your own. We will definitely be back and with proper rain gear and boots next time.
Beautiful cosy spotless little gem in a gorgeous location!

Perfect place for a workation. WiFi is super fast (wasn’t working the first day but got quickly fixed the next morning) and the space is very comfortable. Near the lake district and the Pennines with many hiking options.

Wonderful airbnb! Clean, very well equipped house. Great to see the red squirrels and deer in the garden. Helpful instructions for everything in the house and hosts available if needed. Perfect fenced off part of the garden for our dog to be off lead too. Great walks from the house and easy access to Pennines, dales and lakes – brilliant location. Lovely time.

The location was gorgeous, we loved the Eden valley, with its hidden tiny villages, cozy pubs and people. We recommend the scalebeck cottage because it is in a right distance to lake district but it gives you the chance to explore even the Eden valley. Kay and Andy were very kind and they gave us a lot of precious tips about the area.

We stayed in The Woodland Cottage and everything was perfect for us. Kay’s attention to detail is outstanding. It’s a peaceful remote location surrounded by fields, ideal for getting away from it all. We would highly recommend this place.

Such a magical place to relax and stay away from the frenetic rhythms of the city. The cottage is beautiful, cosy and immaculate. Kay and Andy have been fantastic hosts, there was a small leak in one of the pipes in the house that was repaired straightaway. If you’re in for a tranquil stay away from everything, than look no further. Expect to be mesmerised by the sounds of nature. We’d love to come again.

Meadow Cottage is located in a beautiful setting with nothing but hills and pastures to be seen from the lounge window. It also has an attractive garden area where you stand a good chance of seeing Red Squirrels. The cottage is very comfortable with a large bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs has a well-equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating. Positioned in the north west corner of the Yorkshire Dales, it also gives you easy access to the Lake District National Park and North Pennines AONB. We can highly recommend a stay in Meadow Cottage and hope to return ourselves some day in the future.
